Red Deer College (RCD) was founded in Red Deer, Alberta in 1964. Since then, it has grown into a big and respected educational institution that effectively serves students and communities. It is worth mentioning, that in 2018 Red Deer College received approval to become a university and during the next three to five years it will officially be known as a polytechnic university.

Today the College offers more than 100 Degree, Certificate, Diploma, and Skilled Trades programs. Two of its campuses, located halfway between the major centers of Calgary and Edmonton boast impressive facilities and are the ideal place to learn, work, conduct research, and enjoy various extracurricular events. The Centre for Teaching and Learning at RC College inspires excellence and advances in teaching and learning environment. They act as educational innovators and change agents for RDC. The Centre for Teaching and Learning focuses on all aspects of learner-centered practices at a post-secondary institution and assists with curriculum design and development; implementing educational technologies in the classroom; navigating through RDC's learning management system, Blackboard, and many other aspects of academic life.
Research at College provides innovative and collaborative opportunities for community partners, community and non-profit organizations, businesses, and industries and always involves RDC students, faculty, and staff. A number of diverse research projects have been successfully undertaken, and now support applied learning, community initiatives, innovation, and manufacturing in the province of Alberta. Across the range of projects, the Office of Research and Scholarship is available to provide guidance and information through the Research Common and the Research Ethics Board at Red Deer College.

All international applicants to Red Deer College must meet English language proficiency requirements. They can prove this by providing evidence that they have successfully completed three years of full-time education in English, at the secondary or post-secondary level; by completing one of the recognized English Language Placement Tests and achieving the minimum required scores; by providing evidence that they have completed English Language Arts 30-1 or equivalent with a minimum grade of 60%.
