The University of Windsor, also known as U of W or UWindsor, was established in 1857 and is the southernmost university in Canada. UWindsor is a comprehensive, student-focused institution and the number of its full and part-time students exceeds 16,000. International students makeup 23 percent of the student body and come from nearly 100 different countries of the world.

The campus of the University of Windsor is safe and urban. It covers 51 hectares and is an ideal place for studying, communication, walking or biking, and sports. Recently, the U of W has undergone serious reconstructions and innovations. In 2012 the Centre for Engineering Innovation was opened, and one year later the construction of a new parking structure was completed. The university also boasts modern athletic fields, indoor and outdoor tracks, a championship pool, a big indoor fieldhouse for basketball and volleyball games, and a new football and soccer stadium that features a FIFA-approved artificial turf surface and seating for up to ten thousand spectators.
In September 2015 the new building, Windsor Hall — which retains the historic facade of the former Windsor Star newspaper building was opened. Today it houses the School of Social Work and the Centre for Executive and Professional Education. The century-old site of the Windsor Armouries and the adjacent Alan Wildeman Centre for Creative Arts are home to the School of Creative Arts.
In general, the University of Windsor consists of nine faculties: the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; the Faculty of Law; the Faculty of Business; the Faculty of Education; the Faculty of Engineering; the Faculty of Human Kinetics; the Faculty of Nursing; the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The University of Windsor is proud that its Co-op Degree programs are accredited by Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada and help to integrate valuable work experience with classroom learning and professional development activities. UWindsor Co-op and internship staff together with faculty members work closely to ensure that all programs satisfy learners` needs. While on a work term, students submit learning objectives and identify which skills they want to develop, they also gain presentation skills through preparing and delivering post-work term presentations, and make contacts and build their network which helps them to find employment upon graduation.
The Centre for English Language Development at the University of Windsor is focused on English language training for academic and professional purposes. UWindsor instructors use a variety of teaching approaches in classrooms with advanced technology, student computer labs, and student lounge spaces. The Center offers a wide range of English Language Improvement Programs, and the Teacher Training TESOL Certificate or Diploma program.
The English Language Improvement Program consists of five levels that last 12 weeks each, and focuses on developing reading and listening comprehension, as well as oral and written communication. It is worth mentioning, that successful completion of Level 3 and Level 3 Fast Track meets University of Windsor English proficiency requirements for both undergraduate and graduate admissions.
The University of Windsor offers its students a choice of residence halls, that are conveniently located throughout the campus, only a short walk to food outlets, recreational facilities, Leddy Library, Registrars' Office, Campus Bookstore, CAW Student Centre, and local banks. All bedrooms at the residences are furnished with beds, desks, desk chairs, and lamps. The requirement of a meal plan allows students to sample food from a variety of countries without leaving campus, students can also benefit from the wide choice of restaurants surrounding the university.
