The University of Regina, also known as U of R, was founded in 1911 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Today it also has campuses in Saskatoon. Being a private comprehensive university, the U of R traces its roots back to the creation of Regina College that quickly grew in size and soon became a campus of the University of Saskatchewan. In 1974 it began a new chapter of its history as an independent degree-granting university.

At present, the University of Regina has ten faculties comprising 25 academic departments and schools. The faculties are - the Faculty of Business, Administration, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Education, the Center for Continuing Education, the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, the Faculty of Kinesiology and Studies, the Faculty of Media, Art and Performance, La Cité universitaire francophone, the Faculty of Nursing, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Nursing. The institution also boasts 18 research centers and institutes and three federated colleges: Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, and Luther College.

It is worth mentioning, that in 2020, the University of Regina had 16,664 full-time and part-time students. In terms of student financial support – scholarships, awards, and bursaries – the U of R is one of the best comprehensive universities in Canada. The main and historic College Avenue campuses in Regina are located on 239 acres of Wascana Centre. It is one of the largest urban parks in North America that provides an attractive study and work environment for all U of R students, faculty and staff. Recently all Regina campuses have become 100 per cent smoke-free to make the University a safe and healthy place to study, work, live, and visit.

The number of international students at the U of R comprises close to 20 percent of total students. Many of them end up moving to Saskatchewan permanently, supporting the growth of the province and its economy. The University of Regina works with community stakeholders, government organizations, and funding agencies in Canada and abroad and partners with academic institutions globally to collaborate on teaching, research, and community development. Today it boasts more than 300 international institutional agreements with 44 countries of the world that facilitate opportunities for student and staff mobility and research. 

According to the Strategic Plan, the U of R is committed to the following areas of focus: Discovery, Well-being and Belonging, Truth and Reconciliation, Environment and Climate Action, Impact, and Identity. It is worth mentioning, that the University of Regina is home to more than 400 active researchers, including faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and nine Canada Research Chairs. Ten institutional-level centers and institutes and numerous faculty-operated centers support research collaboration and partnerships focused on the institution`s scientific strengths with 25 million in research revenue. Six thematic areas of research priority are based upon research impact, a critical mass of highly qualified personnel, distinctiveness, and commitment to partners in the community and the Province of Saskatchewan.

The Research InfoSource named the University of Regina the 2020 Research University of the Year in the undergraduate university category and it has also received the highest research impact ranking among medium-sized comprehensive universities in Canada.

The University of Regina students experience the best employment outcomes of all post-secondary graduates in Saskatchewan because they leave campus prepared to succeed in the world. Being the first university in Western Canada to offer Co-operative Placements, today the U of R provides Co-operative Education and Internships in more than fifty programs in the Faculties of Arts, Business Administration, Engineering and Applied Science, and Science. The elements of experiential learning in various Degree programs result in students earning approximately 10 million in wages every year. The University of Regina`s Co-op job placements and internships have grown by 60 percent recently and help to connect students with their potential employers. 

The University of Regina is proud of its UR Guarantee Program that provides students with access to leadership and various service opportunities. Its graduates possess the skills and knowledge necessary to start their careers within six months of graduation and if they are not successful, the University pays for one year's worth of additional undergraduate tuition and course fees.

The University of Regina offers more than 120 undergraduate programs and 78 graduate programs, including specialized programs like Police Studies and Public Policy. The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science provides five interdisciplinary, systems-based undergraduate programs, all fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and the Faculty of Arts has twenty undergraduate programs, a range of graduate programs, and 14 research centers, institutes, and labs, that makes it one of the largest and diverse Regina`s faculties in terms of student enrolment.

The U of R values inclusive education and provides programs and initiatives like the Certificate in Extended Studies in Inclusive Education, which enhances knowledge and expertise in fostering an inclusive classroom. Another inclusive initiative for adults experiencing intellectual disability is known as Campus for All.

The University of Regina is known for its unique and innovative interdisciplinary Degree program that brings together artists, scientists, and cultural theorists who can choose courses in Engineering, Computer Science, and Fine Arts, New Media, Film Production, Animation, and Software Design. Another program - the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Undergraduate program draws upon three disciplines to examine today’s global challenges from a broad-based perspective.

Admission Requirements to the University of Regina include the English language test results. It is worth mentioning, that the ELP test scores are valid for two years from the test date. A number of the English as a Second Language Programs are also available at the University of Regina. All of them are designed to prepare learners for academic life at Canadian universities and colleges, enhance their English language communication skills and introduce them to Canadian culture.

The University of Regina provides its students with a wide range of accommodation options on campus. It is worth mentioning, that its Residence Life Coordinators live on campus and help to create a supportive and comfortable environment for all students and assist them with any concerns they may have during their stay in the residences.
