The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (Ontario Tech) is a public research university. The institution was established in 2002 in Oshawa, Ontario, and is known for its outstanding research initiatives and high-quality undergraduate and graduate study programs. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is globally recognized for its programs in Computer Sciences, Commerce, and Mechatronics Engineering. Students who choose Computer Sciences programs learn computing fundamentals, information visualization, data structures, human-computer interfaces, software quality, and artificial intelligence.
Commerce programs examine key business functions and current systems technologies, and the changing technological environments in which they operate. Students are encouraged to choose a specialization, such as Technology Management, Accounting, Marketing, or Finance.
The interdisciplinary programs of Mechatronics Engineering integrate mechanical and electrical systems with real-time control, combining hardware with software to produce new products, such as consumer goods, medical devices, and robots. According to recent statistics, graduates of these Ontario Tech programs are in high demand.
The institution also offers advanced courses in Exercise Biochemistry. They prepare Kinesiology students with an understanding of foundational biochemistry underlying rest and exercise. Courses on Building Sustainable Communities explore current social and economic needs while ensuring future generations have adequate resources; emphasize the creation of sustainable local development and considers alternative approaches to community development and asset management.
University of Ontario is known for its unique undergraduate program in Nuclear Engineering. It is the only accredited program of this type in Canada. Students whose first language is not English must prove English language proficiency. They can complete the English language tests acceptable to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology or complete the English for Academic Purposes program at the Ontario Tech English Language Centre. Proof of three years of formal, full-time study at a secondary or post-secondary institution where English is the language of instruction and examination is also accepted.
University of Ontario Campus Living Centers manage two residences on campus - Simcoe Village and South Village. Students live minutes away from campus lecture halls. Residence life also includes various weekly events and activities. All Ontario Tech housing units include a common kitchen area, a movie lounge, a games room for get-togethers, and a front desk with 24-hour support. Students are also guaranteed access to quiet study rooms. Both residences offer a number of different room options. First-year students have a guaranteed place in residence if they meet the deadlines.
