The University of Guelph (U of G) is a public research-intensive and learner-centered university founded in 1964 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The institution is known for its academic achievements in the Arts and Sciences, and for its commitment to developing modern thinkers and global citizens. The number of U of G undergraduate and graduate students exceeds 29,000, including 1,400 international students from more than 120 countries of the world.
Maclean's University Rankings 2018 ranked the University of Guelph 4th in Canada among the comprehensive universities category. The Globe and Mail has given it top marks for student satisfaction among medium-sized universities in Canada. According to Times Higher Education, U of G has been ranked 50th in their list of the top 100 universities under 50 years old. The University of Guelph is also known for its focus on Life Science and has ranked 76–100 in the world by Academic Ranking of World Universities. The last, but not least University is well know for their QS ranking for Veterinary Sciences - #5 and Agriculture - #18. Also, it was rewarded by Five Star Ranking (their highest level) for their most promising language pathways to undergraduate studies:

The first scientific validation of water on Mars and the invention of the Barcode of Life, the project for species identification, took place here. Students, whose first language is not English are required to submit the results of a standardized academic English language test or complete the English Language Certificate Program at the University of Guelph. Students who have completed prior post-secondary studies in which English was the language instruction, may request to have their English Language Proficiency requirement removed.
Guelph`s English Language Programs are designed to help students with strong academic skills and qualifications to improve their English language skills. The programs and pathways prepare international applicants to meet the English language requirements at the University of Guelph. The Centre for International Programs at Guelph was established in 1967 and was the first of its kind in Canada. Summer field schools are available to undergraduate and graduate students in 36 different countries of the world. Guelph also accepts international exchanges. U of G offers its students one of the largest university housing systems in Canada that consists of 14 residences. Student Housing Services at the University of Guelph offer residential environments and services that promote students` success. Residence living is seen as foundational support for the time at the University. U of G residence buildings circle the campus like a wheel - everyone lives just a minute from everywhere he or she needs to be.
Residence and room assignments are made based on a randomized lottery system that takes into consideration students` preferences. However, some students have unique medical, mental health issues or disabilities, lifestyle, cultural or religious reasons that require special consideration. Most of the University of Guelph residences can accommodate a variety of accommodation needs. Students must complete and submit an Accommodation Request Form to get the most suitable accommodation.
