St.Lawrence College of Applied Arts and Technology (SLC) began its history in 1967 in Kingston, Ontario. Today it also has campuses in Brockville and Cornwall. The motto of the College states “Hello Future”, demonstrating the importance of innovation and students` success in the life of its community. Academic excellence and leadership are seen as top priorities of SLC`s educational mission.
The institution covers the following areas of study: Applied Arts, Business, Community Services, Computer, and Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Hospitality, and Culinary Arts, Justice Sciences, Skilled Trades, Apprenticeships, and Fast-Track programs. It is worth mentioning, that St. Lawrence College has Liaison Offices in Africa, Latin America, Middle East, and Europe, in the countries like China, Brazil, India, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, and others. The offices, together with Educational Consultants and Agent partners, provide future SLC international students with all the necessary information on application, admission, and academic and college life.
St.Lawrence College offers more than 100 full-time programs on three of its campuses across Eastern Ontario. Most of the programs begin in September, but some are also available in January, February, and May. SLC students who choose a four-year Degree program in Bachelor of Business Administration or Bachelor of Science in Nursing can participate in a Double Degree program and graduate with a degree from Laurentian University too. The Honors Bachelor of Behavioural Psychology Degree program combines classroom instruction with 1,100 hours of supervised placements in three different community agencies.
St.Lawrence College also provides one-year Certificate Programs in General Arts and Science that are a good foundation for students preparing for the workforce or for future study. SLC General Arts and Science program streams include the General Studies, Behavioral Psychology, Media Arts Fundamentals, Social Sciences, Technology, and Pre-Trades. The two-year Diploma programs are also available for those learners who want to continue their studies at the universities of Canada and the world. Full-time General Arts and Science students who achieve a GPA of 3.00 or better can receive up to 10 bonus points when they apply to non-degree programs at St. Lawrence College.
SLC one-year Pre-Health Pathway Certificate Programs introduce students to the academic background necessary for admission to Health Sciences programs at St.Lawrence College. SLC Fast-Track Programs are designed for applicants who already have a diploma or a degree, and want to get on the Fast-Track to their career with a diploma in the following fields: Behavioural Science, Business Administration – Human Resources, Child and Youth Care, Environmental Technician, Police Foundations, and Social Service Worker.
The One-Year Graduate Certificate Programs at St.Lawrence College help students with a diploma or a degree gain specialized skills and knowledge with the following one-year Graduate Certificate programs in Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Interactive Marketing Communications, User Experience Design, Autism and Behavioural Science, Communicative Disorders Assistant, and Therapeutic Recreation. The Apprenticeship Training, Online, and Continuing Education programs are also available at St. Lawrence College.
The Career or College Prep program is designed for adult learners. It provides them with an opportunity to earn credits needed to meet admission requirements for post-secondary college level and apprenticeship programs. The program enhances their skills in Math, Communications, Self-Management, the Sciences, and Computer Literacy. It is worth mentioning, that the Career/College Prep program is free for most learners, its duration can be tailored to meet the learner`s individual needs, and the intake is continuous, year-round.
St.Lawrence College offers two programs for international students who want to improve their English skills - ESL Pre-Academic and General Arts and Science English for Academic Purposes. The ESL Pre-Academic program includes two levels: pre-intermediate and intermediate. They provide students with instruction and support, enable them to improve their English language skills, and succeed in their academic studies, introduce them to Canadian culture and the local area through meaningful experiences in the community. The program also includes field trips to various historical and cultural sites.
SLC General Arts and Science English for Academic Purposes program covers Advanced and Advanced Plus language preparation levels. Students who complete two of them, successfully meet the requirements of most programs at St. Lawrence College and also earn the Ontario College Certificate. This program builds a high level of proficiency in English and helps students to pursue a career or studies in an English-speaking environment. It is worth mentioning, that within this program, English is taught in an integrated manner with academic subjects to accelerate learning. Applicants must take a mandatory placement test, but no prior testing is required to register in the ESL or GAS-EAP program.
St.Lawrence College values its international students a lot and has staff members who speak various languages. They effectively help newcomers to adjust and succeed in Canada. The international office provides the following services like Orientation to St. Lawrence College and the city, information on the study and work permit regulations as per Citizenship and Immigration Canada's guidelines, opportunities to practice and improve English, housing information and assistance, assistance with transitioning to life in Canada, recreation and cultural events to help incoming students get to know others, referrals to services and agencies within and outside SLC, assistance with understanding international health insurance plan and making claims, liaison with Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and information on employment regulations.
SLC international students also get access to Student Success Facilitators, Counselling Services, Accessibility Services, Peer Tutoring, Math and Writing Centre, Libraries, and Career Services at St. Lawrence College.
The Ontario Government has approved St.Lawrence College`s plan to become a Designated Learning Institute. To apply to SLS, incoming students must create a new application, upload supporting documentation, download Letter of Acceptance(s) to support the VISA application, and upload a copy of the VISA/Study Permit approval to confirm student`s pre-registration with St.Lawrence College.
St.Lawrence College provides homestay programs in partnership with the Canada Homestay Network.
Tuition Fees at St.Lawrence College vary depending on the type of a chosen program and campus and are subject to change. International Tuition Fees include the International Student Recovery Fee of 375 CAD per semester. Approximate Tuition for a Bachelor’s program is 21,500 CAD per two semesters.
