The Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, also known as Sheridan Institute of Technology, began its history in 1967 in Oakville. Since then, it has grown from a local college of 400 students to one of the leading post-secondary institutions in Ontario. The number of its full-time students exceeds 24,000 and the number of continuing and part-time studies students is close to 18,500 each year. Sheridan College has campuses in three cities of the Ontario province - Oakville, Brampton, and Mississauga. Students from across Canada and all over the world choose Sheridan as their college because of its innovative approach to education, professional faculty and diverse and inclusive environment. More than 100 countries are represented by the student population.

Sheridan Institute of Technology is committed to integrating sustainability into all aspects of energy, waste, and other operation, including professional activities of teaching, and learning. Together with the town of Oakville, the city of Brampton and other Ontario municipalities it is working on Community Energy Plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from building energy use and transportation. Each year the college reduces its waste sent to landfills, and its community members are encouraged to ride bikes to and on campus.

Research and Incubation Centers at the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning include the Canadian Music Theatre Project, the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies, the Centre for Elder Research, the Centre for Mobile Innovation, the EDGE: Entrepreneurship Hub, the Screen Industries Research and Training Centre. The institution is also proud of its repository SOURCE that serves as a collaborative commons for scholarly output, research, and creative excellence.
Sheridan Institute of Technology consists of five faculties: the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies, the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, the Pilon School of Business, the Faculty of Animation, Arts, and Design, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. All of them provide more than 120 programs, including 25 Degree programs. As all Sheridan College programs are taught in English, admission requirements include a high level of English-language proficiency (reading and writing, listening, and communication skills). English as a Second Language program at Sheridan College offers five levels of instruction, starting from Foundations to Advanced levels. The English for Academic Purposes level is also available. Students who complete this level and pass one General Elective course will receive a General Arts and Science Ontario College Certificate. It is worth mentioning, that this Certificate allows them to apply to other Sheridan programs without further language testing.
Sheridan College has its own International Centre that offers transition programming to help newcomers become familiar with Sheridan. Its team provides information on study permits, work permits, and temporary resident visas; workshops and advisement services; enrollment verification letters; peer-to-peer support through international student peer mentors; health insurance, scholarship, and bursary information, help with social insurance number; on and off-campus social activities for the smooth immersion of international students to Sheridan and the community; outbound and inbound exchange support.
The Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning has its on-campus residences for students. Every residence combines affordable, modern accommodations with the convenience of living close to campus. Residence buildings are situated both on Davis Campus in Brampton and the Trafalgar Campus in Oakville. It is worth mentioning, that all residential buildings are secure with controlled-access entry and 24-hour on-site staff.
