Simon Fraser University (SFU) was founded in 1964 as a public research institution. Three of its campuses are located in the largest municipalities of British Columbia: Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver. The university is ranked first in the comprehensive university category according to Maclean's 2020 review, and ninth in the reputation ranking for Canadian universities. 35,000 students have chosen SFU as their Alma Mater.

Each of three Simon Fraser University Campuses is located in different parts of Greater Vancouver and is accessible by public transit. All major departments are at the Burnaby Campus. The library, two gym-complexes, an international-sized swimming pool, the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, and three art galleries are also situated here. The building of the campus is very beautiful and has been awarded numerous architectural awards over the years.

UniverCity is a modern urban community located next to Simon Fraser University. This new residential and commercial area occupies approximately 81 hectares, it houses restaurants, stores, and a 20,000 square foot Nester's Market. The Surrey Campus was established in 2002 and some of its buildings with engineering labs, classrooms, lecture halls, and office spaces opened in 2019. The Vancouver Campus was the first urban university classroom in British Columbia. It consists of eight buildings that house the experimental theatre, screening rooms, sound studios, and art galleries.
Students` life is rich and diverse. SFU has a students` newspaper The Peak and a radio station available online or on cable. Simon Fraser University is the only one in Canada to compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Over 300 clubs are funded by the SFU community.
Internationalization and international engagement are important for SFU because they help students, faculty, and staff to become active global citizens. Internationalization is embedded in all aspects of academic life, including recruitment and retention, institutional partnerships, international development, curricula, mobility, and community engagement.
Simon Fraser University (SFU) is proud that full-time international students represent 19% of the total undergraduate population and 28% of the graduates. English Language and Culture programs are aimed to improve communication skills and help newcomers to experience Canadian culture and truly live the language. Full-time Immersion and Custom programs are available. Full-time Immersion incorporates 6 courses: Canadian Studies, Composition, Listening Practice, News Media, Oral, and Reading Skills. Custom English training programs are flexible and correspond to particular students` needs.
Admission requirements vary depending on a high school, college, or university the student graduated. Scholarships are available for Canadian and International students who have grades in the 90% range or a minimum of 31 International Baccalaureate points.
Simon Fraser University (SFU) encourages students to design their own undergraduate degree. Customized majors, minors, and certificates create an individual program that best suits a particular goal. Eight of the SFU faculties offer Master`s and Doctoral degree programs. Distance education and Nights and Weekend Classes are available.
