This public university is also known under the abbreviation of RRU or is simply called Royal Roads. It was established in 1995, with the main campus in Colwood, in the province of British Columbia. It has a Royal Roads University Museum located right on the campus. It exhibits materials that demonstrate the history of cadets who studied at the Royal Roads University, as it was a military college long before it was turned into a university. The university is located in Hatley Castle, one of the local landmarks, and a piece of Canadian heritage that was occupied by the Royal Roads University from the times when it was known as a military college.

The Royal Roads University offers local and international students who study in one of the academic programs the opportunity to take a semester or two abroad as a part of the exchange program. Accommodation in Royal Roads University
Colwood is a relatively small city, with a population of around seventeen thousand people. It’s located on Vancouver Island, only five kilometres away from the ocean. There are a huge number of forests, parks, and other greenery thanks to the ocean nearby. There is also a wildlife preserve with a beach that, by the way, the Royal Roads University, the only university in the city, overlooks.
An international student can rent an apartment in Colwood. For example, a two-bedroom will cost around CAD 2,400 per month. Keep in mind that the price varies according to the type of furnishing and its location. It’s also possible to rent a flat together with a friend, or try to search for shared accommodation options.
For example, the Royal Roads University offers international students a place in a student on-campus residence. They offer two types of rooms: single and with a shared bathroom. Single rooms are only available for short-term residency as they are equipped with private bathrooms, mini fridges, and coffee makers. Rooms with a shared washrooms are also private, but they’re dormitory style, which means that a student needs to share some of the living facilities with other students. Shared lounge rooms are equipped with cutlery, kettles, coffee makers, and fridges. Overall, there are fifty-nine dormitory-style, and thirty-three single rooms in the residence.
International students have to be prepared to spend at least CAD 1,800 in the first months of their stay in Colwood. According to the estimates, they will spend around a thousand dollars on housing, CAD 77 for food, and CAD 75 for health insurance.
Future Prospects after study in Royal Roads University
After completing their studies at the Royal Roads University, international students can get a post-graduation work permit if they are willing to stay in the country for three more years. The main building of the Royal Roads University, Hatley Castle, was built in 1908 by coal and rail baron James Dunsmuir, who was Premier of British Columbia and then Lieutenant Governor. In the 1940s it was purchased by the federal government to use as the King's palace, but the Royal family did not live here. Today, in the lower level of Hatley Castle, on the Campus of RRU there is the Royal Roads Military College Museum. Its mandate is to collect, conserve, research, and display material relating to the history of the College, its former cadets, and its site.

4-year Undergraduate programs offer degrees of BA in Global Tourism Management, BA in International Hotel Management, BBA in Business and Sustainability. International students are also offered special preparatory courses: English for Academic Purposes, Transfer Preparation Program, Pre-Master's Program, Business Essentials for Emerging Global Leaders, and a Summer Leadership Academy. Royal Roads University has a large network of partners in Canada, the USA, China, India, New Zeland. Agreements with other educational institutions allow qualified students a smooth transition to finish their degrees at RRU.
Royal Roads University offers its students convenient on-campus housing. They can choose from a variety of private single and double rooms or dormitory-style suites with shared washrooms. The residences are located in the Millward and Nixon buildings and include fridges, microwaves, coffee makers, toasters, kettles, and cutlery. Students can also eat in the nearby Habitat Café, which offers a variety of meals for purchase seven days a week. Tuition Fees vary depending on a chosen program.
