Newfoundland Provincial Nominee Program
Newfoundland Provincial Nominee Program
Newfoundland & Labrador is one of the underrated provinces with lucrative and diverse immigration programs. So, if you are interested in residing in this eastern province with lots of coastline, mountains, and a booming fishing industry, you might be in luck -- Newfoundland & Labrador has a whole of 5 immigration streams.
As with all PNPs, you must be able to demonstrate that you will stay in the province once you get your permanent residence. As for the differences between the streams, here is a brief overview of the programs:
The first thing about the requirements for Newfoundland Provincial Nominee Program is that you need to have a valid work permit with at least 4 month of validity remaining, or be eligible to apply for one, or be a refugee claimant with Canadian work experience.
Secondly, you need to be accepted into the Express Entry pool of applicants. You will need to score 67 points based on your age, work experience, education and some other factors, which you can review on the province’s website.
You must have a high-skilled offer of employment with a competitive salary, and your education must be assessed to be equal to a post-secondary degree or diploma. Your offer of employment must be for at least 2 years.
You can review the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) program guide for detailed eligibility criteria and the application process.
You will need to pay $250 for the PNP application. Processing times are standard for Express entry applications, so you can usually express an answer within 6 months.
Skilled worker
The skilled worker stream of the Newfoundland And Labrador Nominee Program has similar criteria in relation to having a work permit and job offer that has to be from an eligible employer. You also must be between 21 to 59, qualified to do the job you are being offered in every capacity, including the minimum language requirements. You may not be a business owner and you cannot own more than 10% share in the business hiring you.
Once you determine that you’re eligible and submit the application, you can generally expect to hear from the province within 21-25 days.
International Graduate
If you are an international graduate with a Post-Graduate Work Permit and a job offer in the province, you may apply under the Newfoundland And Labrador Provincial Nominee Program International Graduate Stream. The eligibility criteria are similar to other streams, except your field of employment should be related to your studies and you might have to work for a year before you can apply.
The upside of this stream is that there is no fee, but you must be diligent and double-check the requirements to ensure you qualify for the program.
The two remaining programs are the International Entrepreneur and the International Graduate Entrepreneur.
Both of these target individuals who demonstrated their capacity in managing a business. The Newfoundland Provincial Nominee Program eligibility requirement under both is having an active business for at least one year (without breaks in the initial year) that is active and functional. The difference between the two is that the Graduate stream in intended for the graduates of a specific educational institution, Memorial University or College of the North Atlantic. After a year, the applicants can be nominated for the program stream and apply for permanent residence.

All in all, based on your background and your intention to live in the province makes it pretty clear what Newfoundland and Labrador nomination program you should apply for.
