Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology was founded in 1966 in Hamilton, Ontario as a public institution. Today it is fully accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. More than 30,000 full and part-time students visit it annually. Mohawk College and its programs are popular among international students, their number exceeds 2,000. Mohawk College owns three well-equipped campuses in beautiful locations in and around Hamilton. Its main campus is known as Fennell and has recently undergone serious renovations. In 2018 it has opened the doors of the Joyce Center for Partnership and Innovation. It is known across Canada as one of the best examples of net-zero energy institutional buildings. Fennell Campus is also home to the David Braley Athletic and Recreational Center, which is always open for students.
Stoney Creek Campus is known as one of the biggest Apprenticeship centers in Canada. Mohawk-McMaster Institute for Applied Health Sciences is located on the site of the university and demonstrates a unique partnership between these two institutions. The campus boasts outstanding learning facilities: simulation hospital wards, radiation lab, and long-term care center.
Mohawk College has more than 160 Post-secondary and Apprenticeship programs to offer its applicants. The areas of study introduced at the institution include Health, Community Services, Communication Arts, Business, Technology, Skilled Trades, Preparatory, and Graduate Studies.
Mohawk Co-op studies give students excellent opportunities to combine in-class gained knowledge with hands-on experience. The College has 25 Co-op programs in the fields of Business, Engineering, Technology, Protection, Security and Investigation. All of them are open to international students. Pathway and Credit Transfer programs with many partner colleges and universities in Canada and the USA are also available for Mohawk College students.
Mohawk College offers a number of options for those applicants, who want to get prepared for college studies. Academic Upgrading is a flexible program that helps students to improve their knowledge of English, Science, and Math. City School Mohawk is another example of upgrading. Launched in 2015, it encourages learners to get postsecondary education by providing tuition-free college credit courses and workshops. Dual Credit programs are also available for those, who plan to receive up to 2 high school credits at their home schools and 2 Mohawk College credits.
Marshall School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship is one of the largest in the province and offers a wide range of Certificate and Diploma programs, that vary in length and specialization. Special Mohawk College grants and financial aid is available for the students of these programs.Being popular among international students, Mohawk College offers one of the best choices of English language programs in Ontario. A month-long Summer English as a Second Language Program for Youth combines practical English skills with interesting cultural activities. Fun and safe environment aids quick progress of students and shape their positive experience. English for Academic Purposes provides eight different levels of study. Successful completion of Levels 7-8 guarantee students 2 post-secondary credit courses from the major program and even waive the English Language Proficiency Requirements for a number of Mohawk Career programs. International students can apply for the English for Academic Purposes program six times a year.
Language and Culture Center at Mohawk College invites students for various extracurricular activities and interesting cultural events. The Center helps newcomers to find new friends and support for their further smooth immersion into Canadian life. Other services available for international students include arrival, orientation, work permits, health insurance, housing, and scholarships.
On-campus Residence is only available for the Mohawk College Fennell Campus students, because the Residence is located on the territory of this campus. It consists of 170 fully-furnished suites with Wi-fi. Students, who choose to live here, have to pay only for 8 months - the duration of the academic year.
