Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) began its history in 1983 as the South Winnipeg Technical Vocational Centre. In 2014 this stand-alone hybrid institution received its new name and now as MITT continues to provide high-quality secondary and post-secondary skills training. The fields of its expertise include Technology, Vocational Training, and Adult Education. The Institute also assists individuals in finding and keeping employment in response to Manitoba's labor market needs. MITT is proud of the high average employment rate of its graduates - 88%, its alumni have gone on to move and shape Winnipeg's economic and industrial landscape.
MITT sees its mission in the creation of innovative pathways to quality high school, post-secondary education, and apprenticeship training in partnership with industry and the provincial communities. MITT students are equipped with theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience that help them to connect education with employment. English Language Centre at the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology works as an in-house international hub and provides international students with the best language learning experience. Short-term, long-term, professional, general, or academic courses are available, so students from all over the world can select and customize English Language programs according to their own learning experience and needs. MITT's English Language Institute is accredited by Languages Canada and offers a wide range of student-centered English language programs.
Another MITT program Manufacturing Production Worker is part of the Refugee Employment Development Initiative and is developed in collaboration with the Opportunities for Employment (OFE). The program not only helps newcomers in Winnipeg to improve their English language skills but also provides them with a pathway into employment as production workers with manufacturing companies in Manitoba.
MITT High School is an excellent choice for students who want to complete their high school diplomas and at the same time get knowledge and skills for entry into high-demand trade or technical careers. The program lasts two years and is developed for students entering Grades 11 and 12. The first half of the day they spend in their technical program and the second half of the day they join fellow MITT High School students from across technical programs. The academic courses covered within the program include English Language Arts, History of Canada, Mathematics, Physical and Health Education. Students seeking additional credits can also take web-based courses from the Department of Education. MITT High School technical programs include Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts, Electrical Trades Technology, Hairstyling, Motosport Technician, and Welding Technology. Graduates of the program earn a Manitoba High School Diploma from the Senior Years Technology Education Program, which they can use toward entrance into college or university, and a MITT certificate.
The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology offers more than 35 post-secondary Certificate and Diploma programs that teach in-demand skills, including work practicum placements. Business and Information Technology programs available are the Cyber Defence and Cloud Administration Diploma, Business Administrative Assistant, Network and Systems Administrator, Network Security Diploma, Software Developer.
MITT Health Care programs are the Pharmacy Technician Diploma, Health Care Aide and Unit Clerk, Medical Office Assistant, Rehabilitation Assistant. A choice of Human Services programs includes the Early Childhood Education Diploma, Client Service Specialist, Culinary Arts and Design, Hospitality Management Diploma, Hotel and Hospitality Services, Hairstyling.
Skilled Trades programs at MITT prepare students for a career in Carpentry, Auto Mechanics, CAD Technician, Electrical Applications, Electronics Technician, French Electrical, Graphic and Print Technician, Industrial Mechanic, Millwright, Industrial Welding, Motorsport Technician, and Construction Laborer Certificate.
The Manitoba Institute of Technology also offers the following Post-Graduate programs: the Applied Leadership Diploma program, the Business Management Post-Graduate Certificate, the Global Supply Chain Management Post-Graduate Diploma, the Human Resources Learning and Development Post-Graduate Diploma, and the International Business Post-Graduate Diploma.
It is worth mentioning, that MITT offers programs delivered in person, fully online, or blended. A learning management system developed by Desire2Learn works as a software platform for virtual learning and training and provides 24-7 web-based access in order to be flexible for all students. Online learning features instructors, lectures, assignments and group discussions, collaboration. Gamification tools such as Kahoot, Quizlet, Google Classroom, Moodle, and LinkedIn Learning are also used to engage and challenge students. Some technical requirements must be checked before students enroll in MITT`s online or blended programs.
For MITT`s international applicants, one-on-one online visa consultations are available with a special Immigration Services Advisor who has the IRCC designate. Also, the Institute systematically schedules informative workshops regarding extending study permits, co-op work permits, and the provincial nominee program. MITT has a network of Authorized Recruitment Agents who work with India, China, South Korea, Colombia, Brazil, Vietnam, Nepal, Nigeria, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Ukraine, Turkey, Iran, Hong Kong, and other countries of the world. English Language Proficiency Proof is required for all applicants whose primary language is not English and who have been educated outside of Canada. Those applicants who do not meet English Language Proficiency requirements can apply for additional English language training at MITT's English Language Institute.
MITT Homestay programs provide students with an opportunity to experience life with a local Canadian family, practice and improve their English language skills and make lasting memories. All students are guaranteed private bedrooms, single beds with linens, closets, desks, lamps, and desk chairs, three nutritious meals per day, and all the necessary utilities. The cost of the Homestay is 700 CAD per month, and the first two months must be paid in advance.
Tuition Fees for international students at MITT vary depending on a chosen program and on average are from 15,600 CAD to 16,350 CAD per year.
