Lakehead University, known as Lakehead U or LU is a public research university that began its history in 1947 as Lakehead Technical Institute and became a university in 1965. Its main campus is located in Thunder Bay and is home to 8,000 students. In 2006 a new campus in Orillia, 150 km north of Toronto, opened its doors to another 2,000 students.
Lakehead University is proud to be affiliated with a large number of respected Canadian and international educational organizations like the Universities Canada, the International Association of Universities, the council of Ontario Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the University of the Arctic.

Lakehead-Georgian is a joint educational project of Lakehead University and Georgian College. It prepares job-ready graduates in the fields of Electric Engineering, Applied Life Sciences, Computer Science, and Environment Sustainability. Students combine in-class education with hands-on experience and are ready to start a career in a modern globalized world.

Lakehead University offers its students on-campus and off-campus housing options. On-campus residences are available in Orillia and Thunder Bay, both residences have a mandatory meal plan.
