The School of Public Safety at the Justice Institute of British Columbia provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experience that are necessary for public safety professionals and help them to respond to and manage emergency situations. Learners are introduced to all types of emergency situations and are taught using real-world scenarios and classroom theory to ensure the safety of individuals and communities.
The JIBC Driver Education Centre offers a wide range of opportunities to learn and practice new skills for drivers, and for employers interested in reducing work-related crashes. The Emergency Management Division brings together Emergency Management, Disaster Planning, and Security to develop the best professionals in the public safety field. The graduates of these programs and courses have the right skills to succeed in their chosen public safety disciplines. The Fire and Safety Division of the School provides education and training to new and experienced firefighters in the province of British Columbia. Its foundational and advanced programs even exceed industry and provincial training standards.
The programs of the School of Criminal Justice and Security provide theoretical knowledge and applied understanding for students and professionals in law enforcement, justice, and security-related fields. The Corrections and Court Services Division works at various levels in the justice system in the province of British Columbia and throughout Canada. Based on real-life experience, it trains court administrators and community justice professionals.
The Corrections Academy at the Justice Institute of British Columbia prepares correctional and probation officers. The JIBC School of Health, Community, and Social Justice consists of four centers: for Counselling and Community Safety, for Conflict Resolution, for Leadership, for Professional Health Education, and the Paramedic Academy. The Paramedic Academy provides professional development and continuing education to health and emergency caregivers with a focus on life support practices. Its graduates can work as first responders, emergency medical responders, and paramedics. It is worth mentioning that, the JIBC`s Primary Care and Advanced Care programs are the only paramedic programs accredited by Accreditation Canada in British Columbia. The Centre for Counselling and Community Safety provides practical training. The attendees are taught how to protect, support, and empower the vulnerable, affected by traumatic life situations.
The Center for Leadership at the Justice Institute of British Columbia introduces students to practical strategies and new approaches that help them to lead and manage teams and organizations.
