Immigration to Canada Venezuela

Situated on the northern coast of South America, Venezuela also consists of several islands in the Caribbean Sea. The state borders Colombia, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana. The total area of Venezuela is 916,445 km2. The population of the country is about 28 million people. Spanish is the official language, while the other spoken languages include English, Italian, German, Chinese, Portuguese, and Arabic.

It is worth mentioning that Venezuela has the largest known oil reserves in the world and is one of the main oil exporters on planet. The country is a member of the United Nations, OAS (Organization of American States), UNASUR (Union of South American Nations), ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America), Mercosur, LAIA (Latin American Integration Association), and OEI (Organization of Ibero-American States).

Nevertheless, economic instability and social unrest have led to the migration of more than three million citizens of Venezuela. Now, about 30,000 people of Venezuelan ancestry live in Canada, while many residents still investigate the ways of immigration to Canada from Venezuela.

Study Immigration

The most effective way for the young citizens of Venezuela to move abroad is the study immigration to Canada. The country does not grant citizenship to international students after graduation, but enrollment in an eligible educational institution is the first step toward permanent resident status. The next step is to get a post-graduation work permit (PGWP). To be eligible for this type of work permit, residents of Venezuela must complete at least a two-year full-time program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). Once graduates get a PGWP, they can work in Canada for up to three years.

The third step is to meet the requirements of the immigration program. Citizens of Venezuela who want to apply for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) must get no less than one year of work experience and have a job. The position should be under the Skill Type 0, A or B of the NOC (National Occupational Classification). For immigration to Canada from Venezuela under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), foreigners must have a year of work experience and obtain a job offer that is included in one of the mentioned NOC categories.

Work Immigration

The main draw of residents of Venezuela is high-paying jobs in Canada. Hence, they tend to apply for immigration to Canada under various work programs. The most popular ones are the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and International Mobility Program (IMP)

Due to the labour shortage in the country, Canadian employers face difficulties with hiring local professionals. Thus, they often employ citizens of Venezuela under the TFWP. Canadian employers need to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and a foreigner must apply for an employer-specific work permit.

Canadians do not need to get an LMIA if they want to hire residents of Venezuela under the IMP. Still, they should submit an offer of employment through the Employer Portal and give its number to the foreign worker. The main peculiarity of this program is that citizens of Venezuela who are eligible to apply for an open work permit can work under the IMP without LMIA.

The exemption categories include occupation-restricted open work permits for caregivers, refugees, vulnerable workers, spouses or common-law partners of skilled workers and international students, family members of foreign representatives and military personnel, inland permanent residence applicants, professional athletes, bridging open work permit applicants, post-graduation work permit applicants, secondary and post-secondary co-op participants, Canada World Youth Program applicants, and International Experience Canada (IEC): Working Holiday participants.

Residents of Venezuela who get at least one year of work experience under the categories mentioned above can qualify for immigration to Canada from Venezuela under the CEC or PNP.

Family Sponsorship

A family sponsorship program is the other effective option for immigration to Canada from Venezuela. Citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are above 18 years old can sponsor their relatives from Venezuela to come to the country. The government of the country allows its citizens to sponsor their spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners, children, parents, and grandparents.

For immigration to Canada from Venezuela under the family sponsorship program, applicants must gather all required documents, fill out the forms, pay the processing fees, send the application package to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. To meet the eligibility requirements, citizens of Venezuela need to complete a medical exam, submit a police certificate, and give biometrics. If the sponsored person is considered criminally or medically inadmissible to the country, they cannot apply for immigration to Canada from Venezuela or come to the country.
