The Great Lakes College of Toronto (GLCT) was founded in 1978 in Toronto, Ontario. This certified private institution has developed expertise in educating international high school and post-secondary students throughout the past 40 years. The College specializes in teaching English as a Second Language and preparation of students for entrance into the best North American universities and colleges. Personalized Education Program is a unique academic approach developed by the GLCT community, which aims to meet the various needs of all unique learners.

The Great Lakes College of Toronto is proud that over 10,000 of its graduates were successfully accepted to the universities in Canada, the United States, and throughout the world. The recent acceptance rate exceeds 90% and students consistently receive provincial and Canadian academic awards and university entrance scholarships. The Great Lakes College of Toronto is certified and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The educational environment for international students is well-balanced and focuses on academics, excellence, creativity, and responsibility. Today, learners from 23 different countries of the world have chosen the College. Based on the visa application status, students can choose any of five intakes and come to school in September, November, January, April, or June.

The Great Lakes College of Toronto offers its students the Fast-Track University Preparation Program, the Grade 9 – 11 and Grade 12 University Preparation Program, the English as a Second Language program, and a number of Summer Camp options. The  Fast-Track University Preparation courses available for a choice include Drama, Media Arts, Visual Arts, Financial Accounting Principles, International Business Fundamentals, Analyzing Current Economic Issues, Canada: History, Identity, and Culture, World Issues: a Geographic Analysis, English, the Writer`s Craft, Computer Science, Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, Mathematics of Data Management, Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course, Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Nutrition, and Health.

The Grade 9 – 11 and Grade 12 University Preparation program at the Great Lakes College of Toronto is designed to help students to select an appropriate combination of academic courses and add to their knowledge and skills base. Learners at GLCT can explore various courses and determine what type of educational program they are best suited to pursue in their future university or college. These preparation courses include content that is relevant to the study of both university and college programs.

It is worth mentioning that in March 2020, GLCT has moved all classes to the synchronous remote learning model with Microsoft Teams and Moodle LMS for daily communication and real-time teaching. The advantages of this hybrid synchronous learning model are in minimized student interactions, and similar to face-to-face instructions with real-time teachers–students’ interactions and instant feedback. The education, instructions, and learning occur at the same time but not at the same place, so the classes are recorded and saved for students’ future references.

The English as a Second Language Program at the Great Lakes College of Toronto has five different levels and is based on the curriculum developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The course is led by highly professional teachers. The aim of the ESL program is to enable students to acquire effective communication skills in all areas of language study, including reading, speaking, writing, and listening. Its graduates are able to achieve the standard of English that is necessary to succeed in high school and university courses. Typically, students at the Great Lakes College of Toronto can finish one ESL level in two months. After the completion of Level 5 of the English as a Second Language Program, they can move on to the regular program.

Since 1994, The Great Lakes College of Toronto began offering its Language Study and Tour Summer Camp programs. Soon they have started to attract lots of young people from all over the world and the success of the Summer Camps has grown with each year. Today GLCT Summer Camp programs help students to learn and practice English as a Second Language in a fun and friendly environment, while visiting major attractions in Toronto, and other areas of Ontario.

The Summer Camp program offers three different packages to GLCT summer students. All of these programs are educational, actions packed, and include daily English as Second Language classes, but depending on the length of the package different extracurricular activities are available. The possible duration of the program is two, three, or four weeks. Every package includes a three-day trip to Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City, a one-day trip to Niagara Falls. The visits to the CN Tower, Eaton Centre, Nathan Phillips Square, Yonge and Dundas Square, Casa Loma, Ryerson University, University of Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum, Queen’s Park, Yorkville, Ontario Science Centre, Toronto Zoo, York University, Yorkdale Mall, Edwards Garden, High Park, Scarborough Bluffs, Toronto Centre Island, Canada’s Wonderland Amusement park, HarbourFront Centre, Historic Distillery District, Woodbine Beach, are also included in the GLCT Summer Camp packages.

Each day, students rotate through different classes that focus on various aspects of English language learning taught by professional, certified, and experienced teachers. The innovative GLCT curriculum develops all aspects of the students’ abilities including speaking, read, writing and listening skills. All GLCT Summer Camp learners are guaranteed to stay in modern, safe, clean residences which are equipped with furniture, bedding, refrigerators, wi-fi access, and laundry machines. 

Admission Requirements of the Great Lakes College of Toronto include completed Grade 8 or equivalent, being currently a student in Grade 9 – 12 or equivalent, completed high school or being currently in university or college, but have not received any degree or diploma yet.

The Great Lakes College of Toronto students are offered a wide range of housing options like on-campus dormitory, off-campus housing, or a Homestay program. Desks, chairs, beds, beddings, closets, fridges are provided free of charge to students who stay either in a dormitory, off-campus housing, or home-stay family. For the sake of students` security, live-in teachers are available 24/7 for both on-campus and off-campus residence.

The Tuition Fees at the Great Lakes College of Toronto vary depending on a chosen program and its duration. The average Tuition Fee is 1,950 CAD per course. It is worth mentioning, that a Seven-Courses Package costs 13,500 CAD and a Ten-Courses Package is 18,900 CAD.
