Global Village English Centers (GV) aim to provide all students with quality academics, accommodations, and activities through personalized care and support from teachers and staff. Each Global Village school is a proud member of an association of independent, boutique schools that is known as the International Association of Language Centres (IALC). Global Village schools hold a number of memberships and accreditations that include the Association of Language Travel Organizations, International Association of Language Centres, Languages Canada, Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training, International English Language Testing System, Cambridge Assessment English, Imagine Education au/in Canada, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, British Columbia Private Training Institutions Branch and British Columbia Education Quality Assurance.
Global Village General English program offers an eight-level system from Beginner to Advanced and weekly intake. The average duration of the course is 8-12 weeks per level. Levels are configured to the Common European Framework (CEFR). General English program improves students’ ability to speak English in practical situations and puts emphasis on the spoken reproduction of the language. Teachers integrate all skill areas like pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing into every lesson. The core program focuses on communicative grammar and functional dialogue and the electives/options programs further develop accuracy, vocabulary, and fluency.
Students can choose specific fields like Academic English and study English for Academic Purposes, University Preparation program, Success at University, Academic Writing and Research, IELTS or TOEFL/TOEIC preparation programs, Skills Building, Focus on Writing, and Grammar Works.
Elective programs for Career English offer courses on English for the Working World, English for Customer Service and Workplace, English for Engineers, Management and Corporate Culture, preparation for Global Competence Certificate, Presentations and Public Speaking, Investments and Banking. Experiential programs include courses English through Music, English through Photography, Arts: Acting and Film Studies, Digital Media Projects, Canadian Culture and Society, Hawaii Tourism, Independent Studies, English and Shopping, Student Leadership. Regular proficiency testing and personal feedback meetings help to measure student progress.
Global Village schools in Calgary, Vancouver, and Victoria also offer online learning. Students get special access to an online learning platform, while at the same time they are being guided by classroom teachers. The online course combines e-learning with teacher-led lessons to allow students to improve their English rapidly. Students can enjoy additional language exercises in class, beyond class, and even after they graduate from Global Village.
Global Village English Centers provide high-quality Exam Preparation programs. IELTS preparation in Canadian centers includes 20, 25, or 30 lessons per week. Cambridge Assessment English B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE) preparation and examination are available up to 4 times per year, depending on location. Full-time TOEFL exam preparation program is available at GV Vancouver (25 or 30 lessons per week) and GV Online TOEIC Program (GV Canada) or afternoon Elective class at GV Calgary.
Specialized programs are focused on the development of students` intercultural skills, leadership qualities, and other talents. Global Competence Certificate demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships internationally. Taken in conjunction with English language classes, the course helps students to develop knowledge, skills, and understanding needed to build a more just and peaceful world.
Global Village
The Academic Year Program/GAP Year Program is a year-long, intensive, English language course of study. At Global Village Victoria students can begin any week and may choose from various study options throughout the year (General English, English for Business, IELTS, etc.). They study for 2 to 48 weeks, and travel, volunteer, or participate in a farmstay experience during an official break. The Semester GAP Program is offered three times per year. At GV Hawaii, semesters are 24 weeks long and include a 1-week break; at GV Victoria, semesters are 12 weeks long. Both programs give students the opportunity to improve their English language ability through focused, long-term study. Power Speaking is another intense and challenging program that focuses on helping students increase their confidence and English public speaking abilities.
Global Village Pathway and Partnership services include academic counseling for students, assistance with university or college applications, and communication between a student and the college or university. Global Village is proud to have many pathway and partnership agreements with colleges and universities in North America. Global Village English for Business programs teach students effective written and spoken business communication skills, business presentation skills, vocabulary for a business function, international business culture, marketing, sales, and branding, entrepreneurship and investing, negotiations and telephone and client interaction, meeting plans and minutes, management and corporate culture, business ethics, and corporate responsibility, money, and finance, writing professional emails and letters and many other useful business-related topics.
Depending on the location, Global Village offers different accommodation options that include homestay programs, student residences, apartments, hostels, and a variety of condominiums.
Tuition Fees vary depending on a chosen program and the location of the GV school and are 300 CAD to 420 CAD per week.
