eTA Canada , known also as Electronic Travel Authorization
Depending on your country of nationality, you may be able to come to Canada by filling out a simple 5-minute application before boarding the plane.
It is called an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA Canada) and it is an entry requirement for individuals travelling by air who don’t need a visa to come to Canada. In order to find out if you need to apply for an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA Canada) or a visa, visit the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada website.
Once you have found out what travel document you need to come to Canada, you can fill out the application online. eTA Canada cost is $7 CAD, and it can be paid by a credit or debit card. You will get an email confirming your eligibility to travel to Canada by air. Check your junk folder if you don’t get an eTA within 72 from filing the eTA application. It is also a good practice to keep the transaction receipt, which you can print once you pay for the eTA.
ETA Canada. Although Canada eta processing time is usually only a few minutes, do not put it off until the night before your flight. Sometimes an eTA Canada can take longer because IRCC request additional information, or it could also be rejected if you are inadmissible to Canada. You might be inadmissible if you have a criminal record or have a highly contagious health condition. For example, you may be inadmissible to Canada for something like driving under influence. Also, if you were previously ordered to leave Canada, in some cases you may be able to return only after a certain amount of time. If English or French are not your first languages, you might be able to access a guide in your mother tongue. Check the Canadian government website to see if an instruction guide is available in your language.
Once you receive your eTA, double-check all the information it contains, such as your name and your passport number. You might not be able to get off the plane if you entered the information incorrectly. If you discover that you made a mistake – just reapply. It’s a good idea to keep a record of your eTA number in case you want to apply to visit Canada in the future or want to extend your stay.
eTA Canada validity is 5 years or until your passport expires, so make sure you renew your passport before applying. Although the eTA is valid for several years, you must leave Canada 6 months after entering the country unless you apply to extend your stay in Canada.
You might need to leave sooner – for example, if your passport expires or if the CBSA officers stamps your passport with an earlier date. It is your responsibility to know when it’s time to leave Canada even if the officer does not stamp your passport.
The Border Services Officer might also ask you questions about your trip and how you are planning to support yourself while in Canada. Make sure you’re able to show that you are a genuine visitor, you will return home after your trip, and you can take care of yourself financially. Remember that an eTA does not mean you will be allowed to enter Canada, so be prepared to convince the officer that you are eligible to enter the country.
When you are in Canada on temporary status, you have the same rights and responsibilities as those who hold visitor visas. You are not allowed to work or study without authorization. However, you can take a short-term course that is less 6 months in duration and is not a part of a longer program.
