Boreal College is a Francophone public college for Applied Arts and Technology in the province of Ontario, Canada. The apprenticeship programs are offered to individuals seeking professional training. Boreal College provides a theoretical component, while a practical component is given by the employer or sponsor in the workplace. If you want to enroll in the apprenticeship program, you have to find a sponsor who agrees to train you in the chosen trade, contact a counsellor in an apprenticeship office, and register at the Apprenticeship Department of the college.

Upgrading programs of Boreal College allow students to earn the grade 12 equivalence, complete the courses needed to enroll in a post-secondary or an apprenticeship program, develop basic skills for education and employment, improve communication skills in English or French. After completing the upgrading program, students can receive the ACE (Academic and Career Entrance) certificate that is recognized as the equivalent of having completed grade 12. Based on student needs, the LBS (Literacy and Basic Skills) program offers them various courses and workshops to upgrade their essential skills. The CNFS program includes 16 Canadian educational institutions that use French as a medium of instruction in numerous health disciplines. This partnership improves the quality of French-language healthcare services by increasing the number of professionals able to offer these services.

Language courses offered in the college are LINC (English Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada), CLIC (Cours de langue française pour les immigrants au Canada), OSLT (Occupation-specific English Language Training), and ELT (Employment Language Training). At Boreal College, you can also prepare for passing the French Language Proficiency Test, such as TEF (Test d’évaluation du français), and TEFAQ (Test d’évaluation de français adapté au Québec).

After graduation from Boreal College, international students can earn Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Graduate Certificate, Ontario College Diploma, or Ontario College Advanced Diploma.

Admission Requirements

Boreal College does not have application deadlines for international students. However, students should send their applications at least three months before the semester starts. The winter semester starts on October 1, and the fall semester starts on June 1.

If you want to apply to Boreal College, you ought to meet the basic eligibility requirements.

  1. International students must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, such as ACE.
  2. International students who are 19 years and older and do not have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma can be admitted to Boreal College as adult applicants if they meet the prerequisite requirements of the study program.
  3. International students have to submit an evaluation of their academic qualifications for Canadian equivalent scores by the WES (World Education Services) or ICAS (International Credential Assessment Service of Canada) agency.
  4. To get admission to Boreal College, international students have to pass the language proficiency test. Since the medium of instruction at the school is French and English, you have to take the English and French language proficiency evaluation.

To pass the English language proficiency test, you can choose from TOEFL, TOEIC and IELTS. You have to get the minimum score of 80 if you pass TOEFL. If you decide to pass TOEIC, you should get B1 and 700. If you pass IELTS, you need to get a minimum score of 4.5.

You can choose from TFI, DALF, TCF and TEF to pass the French language proficiency test. You have to get the minimum score of B2 and 650 if you pass TFI. If you decide to pass DALF or TEF, you should get B2. If you pass TCF, you are required to get a minimum score of B2, 400-499.

To submit your application to Boreal College, you need to follow several steps.

  1. You should choose your study program and campus. You can select up to three programs using a single application.
  2. You have to check program requirements to be sure that you are eligible to apply to the school.
  3. You need to complete an International Application form.
  4. You ought to send scanned copies of your passport, transcripts of last attended schools/diplomas, and official language proficiency test scores with your application.
  5. You need to pay the application fee of 350 CAD, 300 CAD goes to your tuition fees, but it is non-refundable.
  6. International students have to send all forms and documents directly to the college via email.

International students are notified about the admission decision by February 1 via mail to their residential address. The offer must be accepted or declined by May 1.

At Boreal College, the average tuition fee for international students ranges from 11,000 CAD to 20,000 CAD, depending on the chosen study program. If you want to attend part-time courses, you should be prepared to pay from 17.36 CAD to 19.96 CAD per hour.
